"Natasha" by Vladimir Nabokov
I want to say this story is awesome, but actually it's a little bit disappointing. The prose is gorgeous, but as a whole, this story is kind of blah. The plot "twist" at the end is a little obvious and really who gives a shit? Natasha is a fascinating character but she's not given much to do here. I don't know. This review is terrible. I realize this. I'm just not feeling particularly patient right now. I'll just sum up and move on. The prose in this story is truly something. But it's a translation so maybe that's fucked up to say that the prose is the best part. Let me put it this way. There are three characters in this story. Two of them are jerks. The third one, Natasha, is sort of a jerk. What's the point of fiction anyway? Is this the best we've got in terms of stories? I mean come the fuck on, people.
